Benefits of Brexit for Indian Students

Brexit creates a positive impact for the Indian students who wish to pursue higher studies in UK. The UK government announced its immigration plan that they require skilled professionals to raise the UK economy. The Indian students after Brexit will receive huge benefits in terms of employment and immigration policies.

1) Tuition Fees after Brexit

The cost of studying in UK is affordable for Indian students due to the crash of pounds after Brexit deal. There is a decrease in pound value from Rs.101 to Rs.92. After the Brexit deal, if the tuition fees remain constant, overall cost of 10% is saved by Indian and EU students. UK universities are always ready to welcome Indian and EU students by offering several scholarship schemes.

According to CEO of MNCs, a fall in pound value is a benefit for Indian students after Brexit deal who are studying as well as for the students who wish to do their higher studies in UK. Travel Agent Association of India reported that airline charges will be cheaper from India to UK . Hence our Indian students can save their money on travel.

2) Job Opportunities after Brexit

Indian students in UK are headed with more job opportunities after Brexit deal which are secure too. The recent reinforcement of 2 year post study visa will encourage the Indian students to stay after their completion of course and improve their job prospects in the country. Hence Brexit has made a change in international students life and created a bond between UK and India. Before Brexit deal, in terms of Job recruitment, the 1st preference is given to UK citizens, 2nd preference to EU students and last preference is given to international students including Indian students. After Brexit deal, both Eu and international students are likely to get the same level of preference. So, there is an equal level of opportunities for both EU and non-EU students.

UK always requires skilled people. Around 2.1 million EU citizens are working in UK. After Brexit, the EU citizens also need work visa. Around 6.9% of people who work in UK are Indians. Few hundred jobs are waiting for qualified and skilled Indian students after Brexit. In the upcoming years, British companies are ready to recruit 25% of employees from India.

3) Post Study Visa after Brexit

After Brexit deal, UK government has made changes in student visa, especially for international students who wish to study in UK. EU students also need visa to stay and study in UK. Indian students can apply for the short-term study visa or General student visa.

  • Before Brexit, Post study visa for Indian students is 6 months.
  • After Brexit deal, the post study visa for Indian students is extended to 2 years.

For PhD students, visa is extended to 1 year after their course completion. In order to gain the attraction of international students, UK universities will try to maintain their quality education system, research, and teaching facilities. Thus, UK universities are the best option for the Indian students. Indian students who study one year masters degree in UK helps to make an early entry into the UK job market. Postgraduates in the UK are internationally acclaimed and produce graduates who are ready to be taken by the industry. After Brexit deal, UK government has also removed a cap on the number of visas issued per year for highly skilled professionals from India and more Indian students intake from UK universities in research related activities.

6) UK universities after Brexit

Brexit deal by UK will lead to a decrease in the number of EU students coming to the UK. By taking the international students life into account, few universities are planning not to increase fees for international students. University College London (UCL) is the first UK University to confirm that tuition fees for non-EU students will not be increased. UK universities generate £73 billion for the UK economy, and only £3.7billion used to come from the non-EU students. So, the overall impact of Brexit is not that much significant, and hence Indian students after Brexit will not get affected. So, if you are studying in UK and waiting to pay your tuition deposit, or the tuition fees installment, then it is time to pay it.

In order to fill out the place in UK universities, UK government is trying hard to get international students. In fact, universities have also introduced a lot of offers for Master programs with industrial (and professional) paid internships. Indian students after Brexit will have an increase in overall costs and more job opportunities.

There is an outpouring of support from Indian students regarding the Brexit referendum. Students across the globe recognize that cooperation and unity are the foundation of progressive and peaceful Europe.
